When a user has changed their domain password on a Windows 95 machine the user cannot then log onto the domain from a Windows 2000 machine using that password. The password is not recognised and the correct one is definitely being used. However if an administrator resets the user's domain password the user can then log on from the Windows 2000 client, even if the password set by the administrator is identical to the one that the user has successfully used to log on from a Windows 95 client.
When a user sets a domain password on a Windows 95 client why is this not always recognised in the same way on Windows 2000 clients? Is there something different about the way authentication and password changes work depending on which operating system is used?
