Ok, so I got this book nice and cheap like with all the info you would ever need about Linux expect what to do if it all goes wrong. The book came with a copy of Red Hat Linux 5. I thought this might be a good starting point, seeing how I did not have to pay out £60 for a brand new book with a nice new copy of Linux. However (despite the huge book I got) the root user can not set or change passwords of other users. When I click 'add' I can enter all other details apart from a password. When I slecet to 'change' password and enter a password and then click 'done' it does not ask for comformation and does not put anything in the encyrpted field. Is this me being stupid or is if a fault of the OS?

Please help me as I really need to learn Linux and fast! Thank you very much,

Andrew

If the GUI isn't doing what you expect there is a better way in LINUX & all UNIXs. Command line.
