Passthrough Data View not filtering

We added filtering capabilities to the toolbar, but no matter which column we select, the filter has no effect (i.e. all data displays). Sort and group by functionality works just fine, by the way.

If I hardcode a filter at design time, it works... but still no dice on the dynamic filter.

Any ideas?
