I was wondering if there is a proper way to shutdown the Passport 8600. I realize that the boot.cfg and config.cfg should be saved beforehand, but if there a particula process that need to be followed before a complete shutdown?

Cheers.

If your powering the whole thing off it may be cleaner to pull any backbone links first, that way the other backbone nodes would see the links going down right away instead of having to wait for hello packets to time out. Other than that once your configuration is saved everything should be safe.

Hi there,

The removal of the (backbone) links is not neccesary if you give a shutdown of the 8600 because the link will go down immediately anyway. This is only relevant when these links are initiated during a boot/powerup.
A backup of your config.cfg and boot.cfg is always usefull! Also after a reboot the statistics and log file are gone but you can saved this information.

There were early versions of microcode in which links would stay active even after both CPU modules were yanked out. As I recall this was fixed someplace in the 3.3 or 3.5 code branches, hopefully we've all long-since upgraded.
