Hello guys, I have been asked to change the password on our switches (they all have the defaults). We have a Passport 8600 and a couple of 470-48Ts.

Id like to change all the passwords (RWA,RO, etc...)

Up to now I have only been able to access the switches over Telnet but not via the Web Interface.

Any comments or links to documentation would be greatly appreciated.

On the 8600, it will depend on the code, but if you are running a recent version, try this:

config cli password <rwa/rw/l3...> <Name> [Enter]
old password:
New Password:
Verify New Password:

On the Baystack 470,
Main Menu:
Console/comm Port Configuration
arrow down to either Console Switch Password or Console Stack Password, change it to Local Password.

Ctrl- C to return to Main Menu.

Repeat this to the Telnet/Web Switch or Stack,

Arrow down to Read-only Switch or Stack Password. Enter Password
Arrow down to Read-Write on Switch or Stack Password. Enter Password.
