On the 8600 (and probably on the similar 8300 platform) you are in configuration mode.
Its like a file hierachy. Some basic commands:
box - takes to you to the root of the tree
config - puts you into configuration portion of the tree. Press ? to get help and available commands
.. - takes you up one level in the tree
show - enables you to show various items
save - write to the internal flash, external PCMCIA or TFTP to a server
