I'm having some problems with some passport T1/FT1 modules in a passport 2430...all are failing hardware diagnostics during boot as shown:

Power-Up Diagnostics: Name: pp2430diag, Revision 2.06
Approximate Test Time 1 minute 30 seconds or less.
Memory config: 16MB

It is Tue, 4/15/2003, 10:38:43 (AM)

Testing CPU Board ..........................PASSED
Testing SDB Module in Slot 1 ...............FAILED

<< The SDB module in slot 1 has FAILED HARDWARE DIAGNOSTICS. This >>
<< is a bootable failure. >>

Testing SDB Module in Slot 2 ...............NOT-PRESENT
Invoking Bootstrap...

Is this a true hardware problem with the module (seems odd since all 4 modules I have do the same thing) or is this somehow software version related?

As you can see, I have diag ver 2.06, and software version 14.10...

Please help...thanks.

It may be a bad slot. Try moving it to the other slot, just to run power-up diagnostics and see if it passes.

If they are continually failing still, then it could still be the chassis.

I would also try re-flashing the prom's...

Jynxx,

Thanks for the reply.... card fails in both slots (actually 4 cards), while 56k cards do not, so I'm fairly sure that its either the card, or some type of software/prom problem. How do I re-flash the proms??

Thanks.

This is an excerpt of some code upgrade documents I wrote...

NOTE: The commands below are for ARN/ASN routers. For 2430’s, it is exactly the same however, the 2430 does not have a boot PROM. So you need to flash the diag PROM ONLY! Also, the file name is slightly different for the diag. It is: pp2430diag.exe

Type: "prom –v 1:arnboot.exe 1" This will verify the BOOT PROM version. This can take a few minutes. Take note of the PROM version.

Type: "prom –w 1:arnboot.exe 1" This will write the new code to the PROM.

Type: "prom –v 1:arndiag.exe 1" This will verify the DIAG PROM version. This can take a few minutes. Take note of the PROM version.

Type: "prom –w 1:arndiag.exe 1" This will write the new code to the PROM.

Type: "save config config"

Reboot the router, with a standard "boot" command.

After it reboots, type: "save config config"

Run each of the prom –v commands again, and check the prom versions. They should be different. If they are not, that doesn’t mean that they did not flash, it simply means that the PROM versions did not change with that version of code. This can sometimes be the case, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks, I'll definitely keep that info for reference. I ended up using CV0011034 modules instead. The booted and tested fine... Not sure exactly what the difference is between them and CV0011050 modules, as they seem to be functionally the same.... 50's might just be newer, lighter colored faceplates.

The lighter colored modules are designed for 2430's...but there is NO difference other than the color on the front of the faceplate.
