Hi, I found an article explaining how to limit the ports Windows uses for passive ftp similar to the following:
1. Enable Direct Metabase Edit
2. Configure PassivePortRange via ADSUTIL.vbs
cscript.exe adsutil.vbs set /MSFTPSVC/PassivePortRange "5500-5520"
3. Restart FTP service
I did that, got the expected output from the script (PassivePortRange : (STRING) "5500-5520"), verified the PassivePortRange was in the XML file but doing a netstat -a does not show the ports I specified as LISTENING. As you might expect passive connections fail. The router is configured to forward the port range.
Can anyone explain what I did wrong?
In the meantime, I installed ServU, configured passive port range, they all showed up in netstat -a and it is working. But why didn't windows FTP work? Thanks.
