I was helping a coworker set up a private network with 6 BCMs last week and he asked me if we could make it pass the set names across the network instead of the set's OLI.

I have never tried to do this, and no one has ever asked before.

Has anyone set one up to pass the set name across the network, or is it not possible?

Yes. Set a business name on the system. That will pass the system name plus name of the phone. If the business name is Atlanta, and the phone name is Jim, you'd see Atlanta Jim on the far end.

Note that if you have a PRI, setting a business name may cause issues with dialing out to the PSTN, depending on the CO you're connected to.

I have been able to get the Site name but not the phone name to go across the network.

Should mention that you need a public OLI configured, or a private OLI if you have the MCDN keycode installed.

OK, I have 2 BCM50 2.0s networked together in my lab using MCDN across VoIP with Public IPs.

I have the business name set in System ID and in IP Subsystems

I have the sets named and the set DN in the OLI.

I have the target lines assigned and Called ID set to YES on both systems. when I call across the network, what shows up is the calling set # with an H in front of it, Example: H4221.

In the systems I assisted in the setup in West Virginia, the same thing is being passed.

What am I missing?

You have the MCDN keycode on the system? If you don't, configure something in the public OLI field, such as the main number for the location.

Might be worth throwing in the public OLI anyways just for grins.

Yes, the MCDN Keycode is loaded on both systems.

I'll try the Public OLI, but doesn't the OLI field only accept digits?

Don't you have to set the It to CDP and SL-1 to pass the info.

Part of the private networking setup would be to set the dialing type as CDP, configure a PNI (probably 1), and then configure the protocol on the IP trunks.

You can put in 1234567890 in the public OLI field if you want. That is the field that you populate to send different CLID over PRI/BRI trunks. If you've got analog trunks you can put whatever in that field.

I use CDP and the protocol is CSE instead of SL-1, I set the PNI and the VoIP ID the same as the leading digit, just because...

The private network passes calls just fine, I just don't know how to make it pass alphas instead of numerics.

I network using MCDN and VoIP.

Could the VoIP Trunking be preventing the alphas from passing?

I had the business name set in the System ID section, but I didn't have the Business Name set under the Telephony - Feature Settings tab.

It's passing names across the network now.
