Can anybody help with this query. I am trying to run an external application as an hyperlink from a field, so that it runs when the field is clicked on. In the hyperlink tab of field formatting you appear to be able to link to a file. I wrote a small VB exe that when run brings up a message box saying 'HI'. By putting "C:\hi.exe" as the file name it works. However what I need to do is pass a field value to it as a command line parameter. It appears that you can do this as a formula. However I cannot get it to work, getting 'invalid hyperlink'. If this is achievable and anyone had gotten it to work, could they please give me an example of the syntax

Ta!

I think you are trying to treat the HTTP "FILE" request, as if it were a DOS command line. I don't think this will work the same way.

The test is to try to run your command line string from a browser. If you can get it to work from a browser, then it might work in a CR hyperlink. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

Use current field value to execute what's in a field, NOT file in the Hyperlink.

I've no idea why you'd want to use a parameter if the application is embedded in a field, unless you're trying to create a workaround.
