IPO Rel 10.1 Essential with POTS Lines. My customer, though it is not their central focus, receives some calls from people who may potentially be suicidal. Their AA forwards certain calls to an on-call doctor, and it is imperative that the originating caller id be received on some of these calls. What is the best practice to pass this info, providing I can get the provider (AT&T) to cooperate?

Thank you for any insight.

You can do it, but it is a function of the provider. Embedded supports centrex transfer. But it would be up to AT&T what CID is passed when you do it. Basicly a hookswitch transfer. I have a few customers who use it to transfer off site without tieing up two lines.

Thank you both for your input. Unfortunately, PRI and SIP are not easy options at this point. This is in a very remote area. I knew that there was a way to do this, because I have seen it in use elsewhere. I just wasn't aware of how it was being accomplished. I will set it up and test the Centrex Transfer method to see which CID is being passed. If necessary, I'll contact AT&T. As a retiree, I still have some contacts on the inside who may be able to help.

Centrex transfer has to be enabled by the provider before it will work, it isn't a native function of the line.

For what it is worth.... Apparently, in Rel 10.1, the Essential Edition Auto Attendant now has an action option of "Centrex Transfer". So, I set up one of my unused selector codes as a Centrex Transfer to my cell phone. Then I called in from another line and, when I got the AA, I selected the option for the Centrex Transfer to my cell phone. It did work. However, it did not fix my dilema. The CID passed to my cell phone was that of the party that did the transferring, not the original calling party. I guess I will be contacting some of my old friends at AT&T.

Thank you all for your input

If they can pass the original CID through the carrier that would be good information to post. You never know who else that could help. [hourglass]

The Centrex Transfer was actually added quite a while ago... I know it exists in R9.0 at some point (just checked it is there on R9.0.12). It just gets used fairly rarely so it doens't seem to get noticed.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.
