Has anyone tried to pass multiple values prompt from a main report to a sub-report?

I have a multiple selection prompt/picklist where a user can select one or more values in the main report and I want to pass these values to the sub-report, but I am only able to pass a single value to the sub-report. The problem is , for example, once I place the prompt (?product?) in the main query to pass to the sub-report. The prompt becomes a single selection prompt.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

kenly,

I had never tried this before. You are right in that as soon as you place the multi-selection prompt into the Main Query (to enable usage in the sub-report) it becomes a single-selection prompt. This looks like a bug to me. Have you placed a support call to Cognos?

kenly,

Cognos is aware of this and see it as a limitation, not a bug. I pulled this off the knowledgebase from a May 2000 article.

Put the prompt in a calculated column in Query A. Use the calculated column in Query A as needed. Go to Query B and chose Report, Query. You should have access to the calculated column from Query A through "Report Columns" "Main Query" "<prompt calculated column>".

The only drawback is that passing the calculated column will only give you one answer from the prompt. For example, you could not use "If ( <prompt Column> in ('A','C','D')) then ..." to pick a set of items. The prompt column now only holds one data item and seems to only affect the "in" condition.

Dave,

Thanks for your quick response!!! I have also opened this case with Cognos tech support. I will post it as soon as I hear something back from them.

Dave,

Do you know of a way/treat to handle this situation. Cognos suggested to use one query for multiple frames, instead of sub-reports. But unfortunately I could not use one query. I need multiple queries to support 3-4 subreports because they contain different data/columns.

Thanks,
Ken
