Hello all,

I passed with an 860. I must give Kudos to Testout.com CBT's. They really prep you and have simulations too. I know comptia doesnt use simulations...but I like the way Testout not only explains something, they give you the oportunity to do it.

I planned on taking this exam in Feb/March. Thats life. I believe I will be going the Cisco route (CCNA) now. Anyone have any Books to recommend. I already decided on Bosons simulator. Any input would be appreciated.

good show!

Congrats! Below is a link to a thread that explains what someone recently used to pass their CCNA. From some of the comments, it looks like some of the stuff he recommends might be something to look at:

Hi everyone I am new here.

I am interested in taking the A+ exam . I am trying to find the cheapest route to go . Do you have any ideas?

I have about 1 year of experience (helpdesk) and I need to go ahead and master this A+ exam before an changes are made.

I am at home everyday so I am hoping to find a online tutorial that is user friendly, or purchase a set of Cd that will walk you through the process step by step. I also have a second computer at home that I can use to practice with .

Can some one please give me some advise ?

Thanks

mustyb24,

Welcome!!!

First - FYI - when you have a different subject you should start a new post - this is Mikel05's post on passing the Security + exam - some forums would give you a hard time but this forum is pretty cool!

It is proper to start a new post but the main reason is that your question could get lost under a subject that others with good information will not read thinking it will be a bunch of people giving congrats to Mikel05 for a job well done !!!

As for A+ glister has some GREAT links - I will add - they are selling some very good cert CBTs but they also have lots of them available for FREE as demos - You can try several and see if you like it.

You can also search Ebay under software - people are always selling CBTs, exams, study guides etc. - just try to read between the lines and figure out exactly what you are getting and that it is not avail. for free if you just look or that it is an older version or for an older exam.

I talked with one guy on another forum who was working on his CCNA using a book that was 3 versions old - he got a deal but the book was so old it did not cover about 35% of the current test.

Hope this helps!!

It's hard to say. I have A+, Net+, server+, & Security +.

I prepared for all 4 exams differantly. A+ classroom. Net + learnkey CBT, server + practice exams only, Security + Test.out CBT's.

I scored my highest w/ testout.com CBT for Security +. I will never do what I did for Server + again. I passed...but did I learn anything? Not really.

Im sure there are cheaper ways to go, but I liked test.out so much im going to try there CCNA cbt. .....and NO. I do not work for that company :)

Mikel05,

Congrats on the Security + !!

For CCNA - the Boson Sim is very good - also try to get some time on real Cisco routers and switches - check the Cisco forum here - one of the guys has free online access to his rack!

Best is to get several 2501s, a 2610 and 2 2900 switches on Ebay for your own hands on labs! Sims are great but they just do not act like the real thing sometimes!

As adairja said above - Cisco Press books are good (I do not agree that they should be the only book you use!) Cisco Press books are GREAT for getting you ready for the real world - they go into much more detail then you will ever need for the exam - but as for the real world .......

I always suggest the Sybex CCNA Study Guide by Todd Lammele (sp?)he has been writing these study guides since Cisco started CCNA - this is the 5th edition, he will give you about 90% of what you need to pass what can be a very hard exam.

And it will be from a different perspective then Cisco Press. I have been teaching CCNA in a Cisco Network Academy with Cisco Press books for 8 years - I always tell the students after 4 semesters of Cisco Press books to spend the last 2 weeks with the Sybex book - right before the exam so they can focus on just what is on the exam.

It has helped most that do it that way and those that fail - follow my instructions and pass the 2nd time.

Just my thoughts!
