Yeah, 291 is the only one I failed. I passed it the next time. Just make sure you know DNS, RRAS and IPSEC inside out!

paulhthomas,

Congrats! (From one recent MCSE to another)

How difficult did you find the 70-297? I've heard that it's easier than the 70-298, which I did for my design exam.

Cheers Wishdiak,
I found it ok, a lot of questions, although they were supposed to be scenario based, were actually nothing to do with the scenario, and just questions that needed a general answer. For example, x office has 10 users, which of the following would you enable,.... global catlog, Universal group caching etc.
Know what I mean?

Congrats Kokaina, if you've got 291 out the way, you'll be fine with the rest.

paulhthomas,

It sounds like it was much simpler than 70-298, but since I'd already committed myself to MCSE: Security, I had to go with the more difficult exam, or take both.

Wow. A straight repeat of a 70-294 question?

yeah, a lot of it was to be honest.
Obviously the main difference was that you had 4 scenarios with 10 questions or so on each.
The really horrible bit about about it was that answer's that you give in question 1, can trip you up say on question 5 or 6.
For example, if you decide after reading the scenario that you want to go with 1 domain in a single forest (whereas the real answer is 2 forests and 2 domains), come question 5 it asks you to name the domains, you'll only list domain.com instead or domain1.com and domain2.com
But there we are. I passed, yay!

paulhthomas,

That sounds like good advice. With so much in common between 70-299 and 70-298, I'd say that taking them within a month of each other would be beneficial.

It actually took me two years in between these exams, over a year of which was spent working 2 jobs. I had to relearn the finer points of Certificate Authorites, IPSEC, and VPN's all over again!

Smooth23,

For what it's worth, I found that Transcenders were a big help. The exam questions are not exact (obviously), but the format was. Long, rambling scenarios, followed by 10 questions or so. Just like on the exam, I had to keep switching back and forth between the question and the explanation of what the "company" wanted.

If you got 627 the last time, a little more studying should be enough to pass. Good luck!

Cheers guys.

Good feedback, i'll check the transcenders out. I been using self test software up until now.

I've recently got hold of a cram session document (free download)for 297 whioch seems pretty usefull, just going back over all key topics.

Will let you know how i get on.
