I have read other posts about using pass through queries in Access for faster data connections than via link tables. I found out how to create a pass through query from the help in Access, but I'm unclear of the structure of the SQL statement to place in it. I tried creating simple queries using the graphic design, showing the SQL and then copying and pasting into the pass through but it does not seem to work.

Could someone familiar with this post a couple of basic examples of the SQL to put into a pass through query?

Belay that last request! I figured out what I was doing wrong.

Actually what most people do is to first start a Crystal report, pull all the fields they want into the details section and then copy the SQL statement and paste into the SQL editor in Access.

Also did you know that you can code in the log in with pass through queries. Here is how it should be at level 4.XX

ODBC;DSN=SOTAMAS90;UID=XXX|YYY;PWD=ZZZ;Directory=\\account\account$\Best\MAS 200\Version4\MAS90\;SERVER=NotTheServer

Where XXX = the user ID, YYY = the company code and ZZZ = the password. Note that in 4.XX the Access ODBC connection wizard will not work and you have to manually write it in.
