I inherited a Partner ACS R5.0 with a Partner Messaging R1 with a 2 Port PC card in a five slot carrier. The ACS processor is in the P slot, the Partner Messaging is in slot 1. Slots 2,3 and 4 are vacant. The client reported that it takes a long time to log into VM.

I tested and agreed with the client. I checked Hunt Group Extension procedure #505. Extensions 19, 20, 21 and 22 were 'Assigned'. I knew this was not correct because it was only a 2 port access. So I 'not assigned' extension 19 and 22. I left extensions 20 and 21 'assigned'. I am able to access VM though ever other attempt is delayed. After 6 or 7 rings it accesses VM. If I try accessing VM from a different telephone I go right into VM, with the first access still talking to VM.

This does not seem correct. Any thoughts?

2 ports should only have 2 extensions assigned.
19 and 20
testing by calling them directly is the best way to find out if they all work.

If you assign more then the vm calls the dead extensions and after a few rings it covers to the correct vm ports, that is where the delay comes from, probably not all the time.

Westi, thank you. How did you come up with those extensions? The book, Partner Mail VS, says 22 and 23 if you are using an ACS R6.0. I thought you could carry that over to the Parnter Messaging world. I was thinking since the R7 provides extensions 10 through 18, then that would put you in the 20's group extensions, whether it is a 206 or a 308 slot. Is their a master chart?

There is no master chart - you just have to count. Since the ACS occupies 10 through 18 (for a 5x9), then very next port is 19, and since you have a 2 port license, 19 and 20 are your VM port extension numbers.

That is also the method I am using, counting up (usually using my fingers [blush]) and then to double check I call the extensions before I assign them, if the vm answers with "transferring your call to the operator" then you have the right port.

Thank you guys. This really helps, I will remember this for the future. I was using the SWAG method.
