I asked about this in the past and thought the problem went away-I know one of you gave me more advice and I forgot what it was-so here goes again. We have a Partner Release 1 phone system with a Voice Messaging PC card.At times the message light will not light up even though there are messages. We've tried switching phones-so we know the light on the phone works-and we have unplugged the system and plugged it back it-hoping to reset it.Any ideas? There isn't anyone at all near us that can service this-so I'm trying to avoid a very costly service call.Thanks.

Hi Norma56,
The PVM card is only two ports. If you use it for attendant as well, the unit may be too busy to light the MWL on the phones. It only uses the last port to do this and that's the least important task. I have systems that can take 1/2 hour to change the state of a light on a normally busy day.

Hi Chris-Thanks for answering.Actually sometimes the light never does light up-and we are noticing the messages a long time later.Something must be wrong with it--we did get wondering,too--if 2 calls come in at the same time and we are not here to answer them--can the VMC pick up them both at the same time?We don't have time to deal with this right now-but I think we need to either get a new card-or use a regular answering machine instead-makes me wonder if we are really getting all of the messages.

Hi Norma56,
You may just have a busy system, then any two port voicemail would work the same. If you program EXT 78 and 79 on a phone, you can see how busy they really are.

If they aren't too busy, you may need to reset the PVM card and start over from scratch. You will want your phone guys in for that. Trust me.

Try this, go into centralized programming for extension 78 and 79, reset the ALS for those stations to grab intercom dialtone when off hook. There may be a bit of some corruption in there making there default ALS grab the first available line instead of icm dialtone which is where the #09xx and #10xx codes need to be dialed. I have seen that in the past. Assign DSS buttons on a phone so you can watch the attempt by that port to light that light. If you don't even see an attempt reset the vmail to default and start over, if you see an attempt but no light the ALS may be off.

Hi Will,
VM port programming overrides individual line settings. If the program is corrupt you would want to: 1. do a restart, still bad? 2. restore programming from automatic restore, then manual if not successful. Still bad? 3. Reinitialise the system and reprogram from scratch + commit working program to manual backup.
The intercom access to change a message lamp state is so quick you may very well miss it. Just determine how busy the ports are when you are having trouble.
