Is it possible to set up a Voice Mail VS R4.0/4.1 to be able to dial an extension from an announcement?

Instead of a long daytime and/or nightime greeting with a long list of names and extensions, I was thinking of using one of the two annoucements to list the employee names and extensions. Then prompt the caller to dial that person's extenion at that point. Is it possible, how do I do it?

From an announcement, you must dial *8, and then the extension number.

It's a little cumbersome.

The announcement would then say,
"For John Doe, press star eight, 12
"For Sam Smoth, press star eight, 13
"etc...."

Test these codes before you include them in the final recording, but *4 SHOULD replay the announcement, if the caller missed the extension they wanted, *# SHOULD return them to the Auto Attendant.
