I recently turned up a Partner T1 for a customer & you can hear a subtle noise on all of the channels which you don't hear on the copper lines. The BP we did the job for is sending out another T1 board which I don't think will make a difference( I may be wrong but I don't think so)and the T1 vendor said they tested the span & it's ok. It's not static but definately not quiet like the POTS lines.
Any ideas??? Thanks in advance all.

I've never used the T1 module, but can you monitor the channels by using a test set like a T-Berd 224 to see if the ports are noisy on your receive?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I am just wondering how the service provider provisioned the DS1, and if that might be causing the noise. Some of the stuff out there being masqueraded as DS1 service is not true DS1, when it is being "IPd" to pieces thru all of these format changes and "VOIPd" somewhere down the line with no QOS anywhere!

Does the noise modulate when talking or is it just there as background noise (digital static?) or a low level gurgle?

Jim,
It's more of a digital static- low level but you can tell the difference with the POTS lines that they have. There are 3 POTS lines as backup on the system that are programmed on all phones. The bus. partner we did the job for sent out a new T1 board & new carrier which did not change things-I didn't think it would!
One thing I found out on these T1's is that I was able to download the translations onto my laptop using the ADMIN port but could not send them back to the system because of the type of serial to USB adapter I have. I have to do dialup. According to Catalyst the only one that works is the Belkin.

allisland,

Line build out has NOTHING to do with the audio on the individual channels. It is related to the DS1 equalization for the "T1" signal envelope between CSU, NIU or repeaters when the cable length exceeds certain distances. If you do some research on how DS1 works, you will find equalization is very important for the quality of the DS1 signal.

thephonelady,

If the noise is not objectionable, it may just be a characteristic of that DS1 design or the hardware that was used to provision the service by the provider.

I have a Keyspan USB/serial adapter, but I have not tried it on the Partner system yet to see how or if it will work.

SYQUEST-Jim,

I was not refering to line build out which is for equalization, You can adjust DB gain/loss from 0 to -15, depending on what equipment is used it may be only on the xmit side.

And what equipment would that be in relation to the Partner DS1 module?
