Hi all,

Installed a ACS R7 and Messaging R7 6 Port. I have a problem with a Partner Messaging. The Voicemail for the user works perfectly. However, I found problems when I tried to change the IP address. When I did a direct connect throught the RS232 Port with hyperterminal all I would get is garbage in the screen. I do have the correct 355 and serial connectors. At least I have used it many times and I even stop by an old customer and tried it on a ACS R6 with Messaging R6. Anyone have any idea why I cannot connect. Well I decided to try and connect throught he internal modem to change the IP address... When I try to dial the modem **3 it says no modem available. best on other post, I feel the 6-port card is a bootleg. Am I correct in this? Whould that cause problems with the RS232 Port? BTW the Lan Port and everything else seems to work properly. I have contacted my supplier and they have not been completely helpful. I ended up buying another Messaging (still waiting for it) and they will refund when I send the original back. So I guess my questions are. Is the whole thing a bootleg (Unit and Card)? Do I need to only replace the 6-Port card? Has anyone else had problems with the RS232 Port with the correct cables? And Lastly, Can I backup the Partner Messaging with all messages, Voicemail boxes, etc.... and retore it to a new Partner Messaging? What is the best way to do this.
Thanks in adavnce for any help.

Mark

Since you can connect through the LAN port, you can backup everything, includng the mailboxes and messages, and restore to the replacement unit.

I had a customer with an R1 that also gave the "modem unavailable", but was still able to connect through the serial port. Not sure what has failed in your case, but it is good that you are getting it replaced.
