Anyone,

I want to know if there is a way to log into partner messaging r7 from a laptop and program it. Can you do it from a remote location? For instance, Nortel has a call pilot that you can plug a cross over cable into and launch your internet browser and get into it. I searched the faqs and could not find anything on the Avaya stuff. Thanks in advance.

A GUI came on the CD with your messaging. You can put it on your network or simply use a cross-over cable.

Which port do you mean TTT? Is it the RS232 or LAN port? Do you need the 355A connector to the 25 pin serial port? The 25 pin adapter sure is a piece of work. I've had a hard time trying to Hyperterminal into the VM system to set the IP address. If anyone has a good way of doing this please let me know, because tech support doesn't.

In order to use the Messaging R7 administration software I need to change the IP address, correct? I’ve tried to do this via HyperTerminal, but no luck. I followed the documentation that AVAYA sent me after talking to them for awhile, but still no luck. They say, “We don’t do this very often.”

I’ve followed the instructions below, but slightly different (I changed bits per second to 19200, per tech support’s request and after connected typed “sysadmin” to get in.) It connects, but then I can’t enter any commands.

1) Connect the RS-232 cable from the PC to the RS-232 serial port on
the PARTNER Messaging system.

2) Start a HyperTerminal session on the PC and a create a new
connection. When "Port Settings" window is displayed, change the
settings as follows:

- Bit per second: 38400
- Data bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop bits: 1
- Flow control: None

3) Log into the PARTNER Messaging system.

4) From the System Configuration Options menu, enter 4 and press the
ENTER key. The IP Address Assignments menu appears.

5) Change the default LAN address of the PARTNER Messaging system to
an available IP address on your company’s LAN.

6) Close the HyperTerminal session.

7) Disconnect the RS-232 serial cable from the PARTNER Messaging
system.

Does anyone have a better way? Tech support just told me to try another computer.

What are you using for a rs232 cable? Also try changing your com ports on your CPU to com 1 or com 2. I have never had problems connecting to Partner Messaging or Merlin Messaging using com or LAN ports.

Try your Hyperterminal with a MODEM instead of the serial connection. Set it up to dial your incoming number that is answered by the auto attendant, a few pauses for the AA to answer, then **3.

You will be transferred to an internal modem. Wait for Hyperterminal to negoiate the connection, then you will be prompted to press Enter to connect. Do so, and you will get the login screen. Then follow the instructions above to change the IP address.

If you are not going to put the Messaging on the network, but just use a crossover cable to connect for programming, set your PC to 10.0.0.41 and in the GUI connect to 10.0.0.42 (the default IP address for the Messaging)

sysadmin enter.
123456 enter

123456 is default passsword, i think. when using hyperterm

i am having trouble setting up partner unified messaging myself, so just went through the whole messaging on the network thing just fine.

although i can not get the smtp messages out, i think the isp is blocking port 25, and can not figure out a work around. nevber set up um via smtp or any other way on a partner before, and hope, never again.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.

First, there is NO default password for Messaging, because you set one the first time you log into the System Administrator's mailbox. Hopefully, you will be more creative than to use 123456.

Second, even if that WAS a default password, please never post them on open forums.

Thanks.

ttt,
you are correct in what you say as seems to be the case always. thanks for the correction, and the advice.

also, i do not get creative with passwords while the equipment is on the bench, but do change them before they hit the field.

You do not always get what you pay for, but you never get what you do not pay for.
