Can I renumber the boxes on my client's Partner Messaging R1 to have 3 digits and random numbering or am I stuck with the standard two digits?

He wants to match boxes from a previous system.

TIA

The boxes associated with actual extensions must match the extension number, so there you must keep the two digit numbering.

However, for guest mailboxes, you can use whatever you want, within reason.

Personally, I have set up systems with the maximum extension length set to 3, a bunch of guest mailboxes in the 600 range, and then regular 2-digit mailboxes for the phones. Calls to the phones take a little longer, as the messaging waits for the 3rd digit, and then finally times out to complete the transfer. You can dial 2 digits and # to get there faster.

Not sure what would happen if you tried overlapping, like have a mailbox 10 and a mailbox 100. I wouldn't go there, just keep the dial plan unique.

Thanks - we got it up and programming it with the software and the lan connection made it a breeze.
The client forgot all about wanting to maintain his prevoius extensions when he found out about the unified messaging.

The installation and programming "online guide" made it easy to walk through the steps for the install. Although it wasn't very different from the partner mail VS systems.

How did the unified messaging go, and what email server type did you use? never done this but curious. How long did it take, any issues, etc.

I have no idea. I showed him where to put in the IP for the email server and left it to him and his network admin to figure out.
I'll have to check in with him to see how it went.
Of course being an Avaya product it probably went smoothly with no bumps. ;-)
