Partner Messaging Pickup Delay

Our partner messaging R1 has been behaving poorly lately.

When accessing the Voicemail system, from inside or outside, the system randomly does not engage. That is to say: it will ring once but then the voicemail system does not play any message for anywhere from 2 to 120 seconds. Has anyone seen this behavior?

I assume this means the messaging module is going to die. In preparation for that I swapped in our old partner mail vs r5 and it has no problems.

Is there something I can do to get my messaging module back in order?

If I got a refurb messaging r6 could I use my existing 4 port card from my possibly dead R1 in it?

Thanks,
Jordan

Yup, sounds like your hard drive is failing in the Partner Messaging.

Yes, you can reuse the Port License Card in a different release Messaging.

If you did not change releases, you could backup the system, including messages, to a PC and restore it into the new one. But that won't work between different releases.

Thanks for the reminder on using the PC to backup everything.

I did find this strange, the physical card says 4 Port, but the PC admin screen shows 6 for the number of messaging ports. If I remove the card, then login with the PC it says 0 messaging ports.

What would the best replacement setup be:
keep the Partner Mail VS R5 (and get a 4 port card) $169
Refurb Partner Messaging R1 $129
Refurb Partner Messaging R6 $229

I assume the R6 will give me the most life of the three options.

The life expectancy of any refurbished voicemail is really unknown. Some hard drives spin for years without a single hiccup, while others croak after 1 or 2. Usually a brand new voicemail will give you the best odds for a long life.

The Partner Mail VS has been off the market for a while now and if you buy one off the Internet, you have no control over how old the drive is (unless the seller mentions the date stamped on the drive).

There is a dealer on eBay who often sells solid state replacement drives for late model Partner Mail VSs and the full line of the Avaya Partner Messaging. From what I have been told by someone who uses them, they seem to hold up very well.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Oh, the dealer also sells solid state replacement drives for the Avaya Merlin Messaging! [bigsmile]

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
