Has anyone had this problem?: replaced 2 port patner mail vs card (plugs into processor module) with 4 port Partner Messaging Board R7.0 on Partner ACS R6.0 Co1. Unassigned ext. 78&79. Assigned ext. 29-32 to #505. When you call ports 29-32, each one responds "Welcome to Partner Messaging, system is in test mode". I'm under the assumption that the board is bad.

first it sounds like you assigned the wrong VM ext's, what is the layout of the equipment, ACS in a 5 slot cxr middle slot, what's in the first slot on the right etc, where did you nplace the Messaging card?

it is a 5 slot carrier with processor in the middle, 1 line card, and two line/extension cards. I put the voicemail in the only empty slot (from left to right 1-5)5. Then I pulled out the card in slot 1 and tried it there with the same result.

your not making this easy, what cards?, it sounds like your using 2-206 cards and 1-either 200 or 400 card with the ACS, if that's the case in slot 5 it should be ext's 36,37,38 and 39 for the VM. Also where do you have your 4 port license plugged in?

If you call 29-32 and the messaging system picks up on each one you have it right. The license card goes in slot 1 which is on the left. Slot 2 on the right does nothing.

Hi tshreve,
You have it right by the sounds of it. Turn the unit off and reseat the lic. card in the messaging modual. It may not have been fully seated. I don't know if it's possible, but you have an R7 lic. card there don't you?

I'm not making it easy because i'm old and i can't remember what cards are in it which it why i wasn't more specific.

i dialed extensions 29-32 and each one answered: "Welcome to Partner Messaging, system is in test mode". i will try reseating the port card next.
Thank you all for your responses.

I wonder if the 4 port license card is bad. [ponder] The Partner Messaging module will go into the "Test" mode if it doesn't detect a valid license card.

OK, first if the green light is on steady on the Messaging unit, that's good, to get the message the unit is in test mode, either the port lic card is not in slot one of the messaging unit, or not seated properly, if it is seated in slot one probably defective.

Once you get rid of the test mode message, you will probably have to redo the ext's that are in 505, I know of no configuration that uses the ext's that your using unless it is an external mail.

Hi tshreve,
Please give us a list of cards in the system & where they are. We can therefore confirm the ports. If the lic. card is not detected, you will get this message from all available ports on the vm unit. I still think it's a lic. card issue, bad or not seated.

I will be back onsite this afternoon with a 2nd recondidtioned Partner Mail and 4 port license card. I'll post either way, but if this one doesn't work I'll post the list of cards and slots. Thanks all!

Installed Partner mail VS with 4 port card and it worked fine. used ports 40-43 in hunt group. All is well.

I have seen this happen. You have a bad liscence card in your voicemail system. There is a PDF at the Avaya.com website that describes nothing but PCMCIA cards and there procedures. The old days if you had no liscence card it was a 2 port system, Now a days if there is no liscence card the system is in test mode and is useless. The document is very small and is worth reading. If you had this on a merlin Messaging all 12 ports would light up, that is the example that happened to me. I received the exact same response. Keep in mind that this is a symptom of the VM not seeing the card so the PCMCIA slot may be bad as well, the card is not the only piece in this equation.
