I have a client that is in the restaurant business, and they want to have a selection on the AAT that will play the specials of the day. Will the Partner Messaging module provide any options for announcements on the main or sub menus? For example, 0 to reception or does it just dump the connection when finished playing, or does it go back to the main menu? I did not find anything specific to this in the Messaging documents, although I did not read them thoroughly.

Also, is it possible to transfer a caller to one of the AAT announcements, like you would transfer a caller to a voice mail box using an Auto Dial key?

Thanks for any help in advance!

You can route a call to a submenu or an announcement from the Auto Attendant. A Submenu's Dial-0/Timeout option is the same as the auto attendant that sent it there. An announcement will timeout and disconnect, unless the caller presses 0, where it will again follow the Dial-0 of the Auto Attendant that sent it there.

If it is for daily specials, it would probably be easier to use a mailbox, set for answer only, and set its Personal Operator to transfer to an extension or back to the Auto Attendant.

To get back to the AA, make a phantom extension number cover to voice mail, on 1 ring, and point to the Auto Attendant, with NO phone status. You can make that the Personal Operator of a mailbox, the Dial-0/timeout option of an Auto Attendant, and you can transfer a "live" call to the AA via that extension.

Also, another advantage to using a mailbox is that you can transfer a caller to it manually - which you want to do.

You cannot manually transfer a caller into an announcement or submenu.

Thanks for your response, TTT and sysconsultant, especially for that clarification! I was wondering if transfering to an announcement was possible, and the Messaging document did not say one way or the other.

With all the different VMS out there, it is hard to know what their capabilities are, unless you work with them all the time, which I don't.

So, in setting up an answer only MB, that would be done at the time the greeting, pw, and personal operator are set? Is the answer only MB only available on the Partner Messaging, or is it on the Mail VS also?

....JIM....

Both are set from within the actual mailbox. Personal Operator is Option 4, Answer Mode is Option 8.

VS R5 has Personal Operator, but not answer mode.
