I have a R5 system that is not retaining VM messages. Everything works to that point. I have created new MB and tried to leave messages and intermittently it would retain 1 and not another, more not take the message rather then take it. The other Ext. on the system are all experiencing the same problems. I am think HD is failing or sticky??? If so can this be repaired?

Hi jake29,
Oh yeah, there is something wrong there. You can send the VS out to several vendors to be repaired, yes the HD can be replaced. Just make sure the vendor is authorized by Avaya.

I was thinking of upgrading this site to a Partner Messaging and having the R5 refrubished if they can be used as a replacement for Endeavors I have 4 other sites.

Any thoughts on that.

Also, I would be interested in any one you would recommned for the repair.

Thanks

Hi,
We would tend to send them back through the distribution chain. VM boxes are too important to save a few bucks on only to have them fail again.
Jake29, that sounds like a good plan. I really like the Messaging line and our customers feel like we are looking after them. The wiz-bang quotient makes them feel very up to date.

One more question. I have 4 Exts with 3 users. Not going to be more then 4 users at this location. The 2 port option should be fine correct?

Thanks itpphoneguy, I got the new Partner messaging R7 in. I now have a few questions in regard to changing them out. I pulled the PMVS out. #505 and changed the hunt ext from 28-29 to 33-34. Set the Return Transfer to 10. Set the Call restriction to inside only. When I try access the system (777). To set password etc.. It only rings. Calls from the outside gets picked up and routed to Ext 10.
The current set up left to right is
200E,
Empty Slot,
308E,
PMR7 - 2-port card.

Is there programming in the R5 related to the PMVS that is causing this?

Got it, I did not set the Group hunting for the Messaging ports up correctly. Made the changes and all is well.

Thanks again.

Hi jake29,
It works with an empty slot to the left of the cards ??! Okay.
You don't need to set the vm ports to inside only. This will prevent the unit from using the outcalling feature.
-Chris

Yah, switch it over while I was trying to determine which ports needed to be added to the Group Hunting and it worked fine. I figured that if it was working, not to mess with it. Plus it was late and I needed to have it up and running for the morning. Should I move it? I had put it in the slot furthest to the right and the LED only glowed amber. Can't be good...

I will look into the Outcalling Feature and see if it is something to take advantage of. It is only setup as a 2-port system. Granted there are only 3 users and could only be a max of 4. Could tell me of any problems I would run into by running feature in this config?

Thanks

Hi jake29,
You can not have any empty slots to the left of any expansion cards or they will not be recognised.

The worst thing that can happen is that you run out of ports. If this occurs, and you find the feature is invaluable, then go to 4 ports. It isn't important for everyone but it can be truely handy.

-Chris

Ok, Sounds like a good idea to move the card. To save me any grief can you explain how is the Messaging ports determined? I am assuming that in that slot it should be 19-20. But I thought that is what I had it set to and it did not work. I may have been 20-21, which would mean that a non-Messaging port was in the Hunt and would fail to work. I don't recall.

I am also looking into the Outcalling Feature and see if we can use it. I threw it out there this morning and they seem interested.

Hi jake29,
Okay, the ports to use on the Messaging series are counted from the lowest up. 32 and 33 I think if the Messaging card is the last one. L to R would be 308EC, 200E, ACS, Messaging. The 200 card is seen as having 6 ports.
Do your self a favour and use the PC Messaging Administration program and put the unit on the network. This will make your life much easier if you haven't done so already.
