I have a Partner Mail VS R5 that I think might have a bad hard drive. It was working fine on a Friday, and no programming changes were made. Monday morning the auto attendant would not pickup. Rebooted the system, and any attempt to hit v-mail returned a busy signal. Rebooted one more time, and back to the original problem. Intercom 777 still gets me to the main V-mail prompt, but auto attendant still will not pickup. I also tried resetting the voicemail back to factory default, and starting from scratch with no results. Last thing I tried was moving the module to a different slot, and assigning the appropriate extensions to hunt group 7. This is when I started to get really worried. System returned a busy, and acted as if it was getting stuck in its boot up process. Any thoughts before I toss it out the window? Thanks in advance for your replies, and sorry to be so long winded.

Sounds like it is bad. At this point you have already done exactly what I would have. I've been installing these systems for over six years. Try plugging in the entire system (in the 5 slot) and pull hte cord out of the wall.
Plug the system back in and wait.
What is weird is that usually when the system is busy you cannot access the system period, ie vm or aa.

Try leaving out the first port of the vm system #505 7 then ext (enter second port)

If still busy, time to buy a new one?

Jfilary,

Just a few ideas that you might not have thought of yet ....

We see many voice mail access problems occur - some like yours - when there are "incorrect" extensions assigned to the VM hunt group #7. Frequently when a system is upgraded - modules are added etc. - the "new" VM extensions are assigned to HG #7, but the old ones are not UNASSIGNED. Resetting the VS 5 to default won't solve this config problem!!! Go into your HG #7 programming and start with ext. #10 and be sure that ALL extensions all the way to the end are not assigned and then just assign the ones that are required to connect the VM mod to the system.

If you can access the VM menu using INT 777 then you have some channel of communication between the VM mod and the processor. That would lead me to believe the VS 5 isn't defective ....?? Double check to be sure you have the correct VM extensions written down - sometimes the system programming manual can be difficult to understand with "virtual extensions" on the VS mod. Call if you need help with this part.

A simple check to see if you have the correct extensions assigned to HG #7 is to intercom into each one separately and they should all answer (2 or 4 depending on the # of ports in your VS 5) with the same VM menu message that you hear when you go into INT 777 which typically accesses just your first (lowest #) extension assigned to HG #7. INT #22 & INT #23 for example or 22-23-24-25 for a 4 port!

Moving the VS 5 "to another slot" wouldn't be a logical solution unless you removed a mod from a lower slot #. The VS 5 needs to be in the last available slot to the right after any other mod. All slots must be filled to the left of your VS 5 is a better way to see it in your 5 slot carrier. Only your processor can be to the right of your VS 5 and only if you have one other mod in your 5 slot carrier. If you have a processor and 2/3 other mods, the VS 5 will always be in in the 4th or 5th slot.

It is possible that you have a problem with your power supply on the VS 5 or a main circuit board component problem and possibly the hard drive is defective also.

Send me an email or call and we can help you through those types of problems very easily.
