A client reports that transferred messages are going to wrong mailboxs and that deleted messages are showing back up at original mailbox and other mailboxes. I performed (remotely)the magic reset procedure. I got back a confirmation message saying 'system will be returned to factory settings'. It did not work. I am still getting day/night greetings and mailbox greetings. Is it possible the hard drive in the VS module is going bad? Would the reset procedure reboot the hard drive or just erase and restore the hard drive?

factory default is just a deletion of all info on the HDD but if you did that and the greetings are still there then something is really fishy with the VS.
seeing that it is almost 15 years old (or so as I can only remember that the VS R5 came out end of '98) it might be a good idea to have a replacement handy as this one will most likely not getting any better.

Give a tech a solution and he will be back tomorrow to ask you the next question, teach a tech how to read the manual and he will be able to solve the problems for a life time.

not sure if this will help or not, but I have found that the factory reset never works on the first try. I don't know if it's because of the age or what.
What I have had to do on mine, (different model but it works for me)
is pull the license card first. Then the system will come up in test mode. Then I put the license card back, then do the factory reset. If I follow this procedure
the reset works every time. If I just connect and reset, it never does. Even when I did the factory reset three or four times in a row, it never actually reset until I pulled the license card first.
