Partner Mail VS R4.0 Troubleshooting Failure

My very small business has a "hand me down" Partner phone system. We had a power outage a few days ago and ever since the system has been acting very strange. I think the Mail VS R4.0 module has failed. I would like some help troubleshooting this and advice for replacing it if it has failed.

Our system has two 206E Module R3.1 modules, a Processor Module R.4.1 and the Partner Mail VS R4.0 module installed in that order.

With the VM Module disconnected all our phone lines work fine. I can transfer calls and intercom. Incoming calls work fine as well.

With the VM Module connected the system acts very strange. When I press [Intercom],7,7,7 I get a busy signal tone. Incoming calls ring once and then both lines light up while the caller hears, "Your Call is being transferred to the receptionist" and are then transferred to extension 10. Extension 10 rings for a while and then the caller hears the same message and it rings some more. I can intercept the call on the first ring, but the other line illuminates red on my extension and green on extension 10 and it rings on extension 10 until the phone is picked up.

When I turn on the system the VM module power LED glows green. The HD led flashes. The other LED's don't do anything.

Is there a way to "reset" the module, or is it just dead? If it is dead and I buy a new one how hard will it be for me to get it working with our system?

Thanks for your help.

Erik

you lost the programming of the processor. Your Vm is fine

you need to reprogram it all.

you might get away for a little bit by just programming the vm ports so that the calls are not answered by the voicemail any more.

Thanks Joe, I wondered if it could be something like that because I noticed that all my programmed buttons were lost as well. Well, I guess I get to learn how to program the process or now.

If you don't already have a quality UPS between your A.C.outlet and Partner System, now is the time to make an investment - I recommend MinuteMan UPS's. Quality Tech Support. Never Power down with a dead NiCad backup battery always use #728 in Admin programming.

I would suggest upgrading the processor and voice mail. The Partner ACS R6 through R8 allow you to save system configurations to a PCMCIA, or internal memory (R7 and R8). The R6 uses user replaceable AAA batteries to keep programming intact. The R7 and R8 store programming and automatically boot off of it after a loss of power. They use AAA batteries to only keep the Change Batteries banner from appearing on x10 and x11's displays.

Even though the voice mail is fine, it is old and upgrading to either a Partner Voice Messaging or an Avaya Partner Messaging might well be worth the effort. The prices of Partner hardware on the secondary market are quite reasonable now that the furor caused by the platform's demise has subsided. [smile]

On top of what Dexman said that system doesn't even support caller ID just in case that's important.

Thanks for those suggestions. I will look into that. I think I will be looking to hire someone to do the programming as well.
