Voice mail was working fine until I shut the system down to repair a corroded battery contact on the 308ACS. When powered up the next day, the 308 works just fine, but the VM Power, Test and HDD LEDs came on, the drive started to spin up then after about 3 seconds, all the LEDs went out. This happens every time I cycle the power. Sounds like maybe power supply? Can anyone tell me if the VM card uses the same power supply as the 308ACS? Thanks.

Sorry saw it was a n 4.0, uses an 206E power supply, but i would look to your hard drive as the problem, as you stated the lights come on then when your hard drives spins , then nothing
but if you want Refurb supplies sell power units for the 206

Given the age of the Partner Mail VS R4 and the fact that Avaya no longer supports it, now might be a good time to upgrade to an Avaya Partner Messaging.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

I have a new power supply board for the 308 processor, and thought I'd try that first if it's the same as the one used in the VM module???

Had to replace it, thanks to all who responded!

Did you replace the entire voicemail unit or just the power supply. If you did replace the entire unit, did you upgrade to an Avaya Partner Messaging?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Thanks for the clarification! [thumbsup2]

Well, it seems nothing is ever easy. I installed a replacement VM unit and it behaves exactly the same as the original- starts to run, then lights-out. Is it possible the 308 processor is somehow preventing the VM card from running? Are there any VM settings that don't get saved during a backup/restore?

Check to make sure the correct voicemail ports are assigned to Hunt Group #7.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

The VM card is in slot 3 (5-slot carrier), immediately to the right of the processor. Ports 32-35 are assigned to hunt group 7.

Aside from the processor in the center of the carrier and the voicemail to the right of it, what are the cards in the other slots (Slot 1, 2 & 5)? Are they all 308ECs?

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

No other cards- only the processor and VM. Any idea what could be going on?

Hold the phone....

If the system consists of only a processor and the voicemail housed inside a 5 module carrier, the modules should be arranged like this:

|voicemail| |empty| |processor| |empty| |empty|

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

The ports assigned to Hunt Group #7 will need to change.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Moved VM to slot 1, assigned ports 20-23 to hunt group 7 and it's working again! It NEVER would have occurred to me to move the VM to a different slot simply because it has been working in slot 3 for the last 4 years.
I can't thank you enough for your help!!

That's why this forum exists! [smile]
