I have a friend that owns a music store and has a Partner Mail VS R4 with the 4x40 expansion card. He only has the General m-box and 2 other phones with voice mail, the rest are ghost mailboxes. The problem is you cant transfer a call into a specific ghost mailbox. It is fine when going into one of the boxes with an extension, but not one of the ghost boxes. AA picks up after 1 ring, and works fine if you try to transfer into any of the ghost m-boxes. I have tried voice mail cover. The manual stated that you dont need to program for that IF you dont have an extensions associated with a mailbox. I tried anyway, and it wouldn't allow it. It would only allow for the boxes with an actual extension.
Help.

If you are referring to manually tranferring a call to a ghost mailbox use Feature 14 and then enter the mailbox number to direct transfer a caller to a mailbox. You can program Feature 14 to an available button on your phones to simplify transfers (Feature 00, press an available button, dial Feature 14, Feature 00 to end).

Yes I have the button programmed. We can use VMTransfer from an extension to one of the mailboxes with an extension, but just not the ghost mailboxes. Very perplexing.

P.S... Brian, I stumbled on to your telcom help web site about a year ago, VERY helpful. Thanx

In order for Direct VM to work (feature14) The extention must have automatic VM cover (or a VMcover button assigned and on), and it have to be in the valid range of extention numbers.

Yes, that is true, but therein lyes the dilema. When I do #310 and enter one of the ghost mailboxes, it gives the error tone. If I Use next data and scroll through the extensions, it only scrolls through the ports that are available to have actual phones. It skips over all the ghost boxes. My ghost mailboxes start at 34ish and go to 50ish.

OK, so you must have a Partner Plus, whose valid extension numbers are 10 to 33. To transfer to a mailbox above 33, you must transfer to 777 (which is Voice Mail), when it answers and asks you to log in to check messages, dial *8 (transfer), then dial the guest mailbox number. When it says "transferring call", hang up so the caller will be connected to the mailbox.

And now that I think about it, even this might not work, 'cause the Partner Mail VS-R4 has no way to designate a mailbox as not having a phone associated with it. I think the Partner Mail will still try to transfer to the invalid extension number, which the Partner Plus won't allow. You may be stuck in this case. Upgrading to Partner Messaging or a Partner ACS will solve the problem.

You can assign a guest mailbox to a port with no extension. On the Partner Plus your mailbox's can go up to 33 as TTT said. You will of course have to go in and set up a mailbox in the VMS admin. I don't see any mention of you creating a mailbox yet.

Sorry I see where you did set them up.
When the AA answers try *8XX, XX=guest mailbox. You must also have Automatic VMS Cover assigned for the guest mailbox's. You can assign them to any unused port or emty slot on the system.

It wont let you set Auto VMS cover on the ghost boxes. Only valid extension number ranges. I am assuming that this is because of the release of the processor. ????

Yes if you are running a Partner Plus then 34 on up will not work you have to go 33 and below.

Is that a fault of the processor? Which release would I have to upgrade to to remedy? Thank you for the help.

The partner plus only was designed for one carrier. So in theory you could only have 4 206 cards in the system. Hence, X10-X33. A cheap upgrade fix would be to get a Partner II processor. It was designed for two carriers 8 206 cards. X10-X57. You could go with the ACS R5 which will as well give you 48 exts to work with. BTW, on another note, did anyone notice if you plug in a PMVS into a partner ACS R5 you can't assign a mailbox to X50-57 since ot was designed fot the orignal ACS which only went up to X49. The ACS would upgrade some AA routing features that you might use. Not to mention an additional 3 lines and 8 exts as well as AAA battery backup and flash memory card to back up your programming.

Hi Mongo5150,
Jinxs is solid here. Go for an ACS. R3.0 up would be a big step up. I would recommend an R5.0, but a used R3.0 is a good way to go to save money. Beware of overheating marks on the top as those will cost you eventually. The R5.0 dial plan is up to ext57 or there abouts I think.

Please explain #206, options 1 and 3, for partner vs 5.0.

What are the differences between the call answer and auto attendant services?

#206-7-NN-1 sends the call to the Auto Attendant, "Thank you for calling. If you know your party's extension number, please enter it now...."

#206-7-NN-3, AND assigning a mailbox as the owner of the line in the VS mail, causes the call to be answered by a mailbox instead. "Hi, this is Fred. Leave me a message...."

#208-NN-XX is Call Cover, does the same thing as #206-7-NN-3, except if you put the extension in DND, it will answer immediatly.
