Hi,

I just installed a partner mail vs R5 system (w/ 2 port license card) to an existing Partner ACS R7.0 processor using a 2 slot carrier. They previously had a Partner Mail PC Card (Small) that we removed. I did the following programming:

#505 - I removed extensions 78 and 79 and added 23 & 24 (which btw the manual was wrong- said 22 & 23).

#306 - I set transfer return on those to x10

#206 - Group call dist - added lines 1 and 2 to grp 7

#304 - Turned on privacy for those extensions.

#310 - I set automatic VMS cover for x10 which we're using as a general mailbox.

#507 - VMS Hunt Schedule always

#506 - VMS Hunt Delay - day 4 rings - night 2 rings

#503 - Programmed night service button at x10

Everything works when tested, however they complained that someone called in and the system answered on the first ring (which is not set anywhere) and then dropped the call. I called in several times (about 4 - once for day line 1 & 2 and then once for night line 1 & 2) and it happened to me when we switched from day to night service but only once. The first call was answered and dropped.. then subsequent calls were answered.

As for the incorrect extensions in the manual, I did some testing with 22 & 23 programmed into #505. Intercom 22 did not answer and Intercom 23 did answer. I then removed 22 and added 24 and tested again. Intercom 24 answered so I figured the manual was misprinted and the system started working (where before it would answer immediately and say "transferring your call please hold" or something like that)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Rich

It should be 23 and 24. The processor has ports 10-18. Then the Partner Mail VS acts as a 6 port card, the last 2 being the voicemail ports (when using 2-port license). So, 19-24, 23 and 24 being the voicemail ports.

Thanks - that makes sense then. Not sure why the manual said 22 and 23 - triple checked and it certainly says that. Odd.

Any other suggestions why it might be behaving this way?

-Rich

The manual was written for ACS Release 1 through 6, which has 3 lines and 8 stations, where you have a Release 7, which has 9 stations on it. So everything is going to be 1 more in terms of extension numbers when you put in the voice mail.

There is a known compatibility issue with PACS R7 and Mail Vs R5. Cutting off calls is one of the problems. Avaya released a patch to correct the issues, but I don't know if it is still available.

This was recommended as a temporary fix:
1. Power system down.
2. Remove Mail Vs module
3. Put a 206 module in that slot
4. Power up system
5. Power system down; put Mail back in.
6. Power up system
7. System should now work properly.

In some cases, this has permanently fixed the problem. Perhaps this will work for you.
