When you turn it back on, listen for the drive to spin up. If it doesn't, turn the system off. Remove the vm card and give it a whack with your hand. Not really hard. Reinstall the vm and power up the system. If the vm is now working, have people get the important messages off the unit.
You can either send it out for repair or replace it. Expensive piece, but it's a good time to upgrade if you can afford to.
