Good Morning,

I have just taken over avaya partner and partner mail. I can log into partner mail and I can log into system administrator mailbox with 9997# and password 123456. Than to get into sytem administration you hit 9 than enter password. I don't have the password for this. What besides calling avaya can I do about this. Is there a backdoor password or a way to reset. Thanks.

Hi Mongo5150,
Right you are, 654321.

Nortellian, search under keyword under "Partner Mail password reset" if that's been changed. There is a procedure for resetting this one. It's not just a simple code to punch in. You would have to turn the voicemail off & log in with the serial within 10 min. I think.

There are NO default passwords, either the 1st one on 9997, or the 2nd one after pressing 9. On the initial installation, you will be prompted to enter both of them. MOST installers use the 123456/654321 combination, but out of the box they are not there. The 2nd password cannot be the same as the 1st password.

Hi Guys,
Thanks TouchToneTommy. I've never seen a spanking new Partner Mail. Every one I have worked on had 654321 as the second password. I therefore assumed that that is the way they come. Like a Legend Mail. I have a Partner Mail R1.8. It was set up with four digit passwords. Assumption again ... older unit, four digits.
The last Partner course I was on (ACS 3.0), the instructor told us we had to turn the Partner Mail off first. Then we had a time limit to enter the serial number as the password. The system would be reset and we would enter a new code. How close is that to correct?

You got to go to CLASS? The last one I went to, Monday morning it was hosted by AT&T, Tuesday morning it had become Lucent and everyone was going "Huh?". And at the time I was still with an interconnect that was kinda the model for a Business Partner before they exsisted.

I've only needed to use the serial number backdoor a couple of times, and I suppose that I HAD just powered up the system, so the 10 minute limit sounds reasonable; however if it won't accept the S/No. on the first try, by all means power off/on and try again.

Hi TouchToneTommy,
Yeah, I had to go to class. The interconnect I work for wants everyone to have paper on the wall. Not a bad idea I guess. Had to go to Magix too. That was much more useful. Mind you, the lessions learned by suffering are remembered much better.

WOW, a company that beleives in certification. Could you have them call my boss.

Hi Mongo5150,
Nah, they always send me to a course AFTER I needed some info. Sent me to MICS too (Nortel). Funny, they don't pay me any extra after this either. You really want to do service calls on the way home from a course (all day). I'd say, don't give'em any ideas. ;-)
