we may have had a power outage at night, nonetheless we lost our autoattendant greeting on our small partner mail pc card vmail. it is in an acs 3.0 processor.

on inbound calls, it just played some default greeting. why did this happen.

we just re-recorded the prompt

Hi jsaad,
Your PVM is static. It does not require power to keep memory. So, something else is happening. What default greeting do you get? If it says "transfering to receptionist", then I think you lost the ACS program for ext 78, 79 in hunt group 7 (#505). Check all your vm programming to make sure it's all there.

i don't recall what the prompt said, i don't think it said transferring call. i called in remotely, heard some default prompt (like "This is the main menu"), then i dialed *7 and was able to log into the operator/administrator mailbox to re-record the prompt.

if it said "transferring call", i do not think i could have hit *7 or dialed an extension, which i was able to do fine.

this vmail says Merlin Messaging on it, but yes, it's a partner ACS 3.0.

otherwise the system is functioning fine, i put fresh AAA batteries in only a few months ago if that means anything.

Hi jsaad,
Well, if the vm programming is all there, someone may be playing. I thought at first you had a restore from before the pvm card installation. The pvm cards will not lose memory. If you had to re-record the main greeting, then someone had recorded over it.
I have a couple sites that have this problem sporatically. They now realize that they have an employee that plays. Avaya had to unlock one, ouch! My problem sites have changed the admin password. No, it's not written down in the book. That has all but stopped this stuff. Make sure that more than one person has the password so they don't forget it. I don't even know them, not that that stops me now.
If the problem occurs again, see if the customer can recognise the voice.

Good luck,
-Chris

I had a customer that went to record the personal greeting in mailbox 20, but accidently logged into 0 - it still had the default password. They didn't listen closely to the prompts, and it's 3 to record the personal greeting in a mailbox, and 3 to record the Auto Attendant prompt.

i checked today, customer still did not re-record the prompt. the message said "Welcome to Partner Mail yada yada yada.."

and when you log in and go to greetings, it says nothing recorded, despite the fact that we recorded a prompt in october.

i guess this is a security issue

Hi jsaad,
Did the entire voicemail system go back to default? I mean all user mailboxes and boxes 1-4 for ext 10-13? What I would suggest is recording a new prompt, change the password and see if this reoccurs. I did get quite a few defective pvm cards, but they were just plain dead. Possibly contact Avaya tech support to see if it's possible for the attendant greeting to go back to default.
The reason I ask is that I don't think you can easily default the attendant greeting without defaulting the entire voicemail.
Let us know,
-Chris
