A client of mine wants to run an extension off of his ACS 3.0 to a remote location from the ACS. The remote lacation (a barn) is on his property and underground conduit is ran b/n house and barn. I could easily run copper through the conduit with lightning protection on both ends and get a extension to the barn, but even with the lightning protection I have seen equipment damaged. Is it possible, or has anyone ever fired up a Partner ACS extension over fiber?

you would need a copper fiber converter at the ACS and a fiber copper converter at the other end just to use an analog set and I guess you would most likely be cheaper with a copper outdoor cable with lightning protection as you can then use actual partner phones instead of analog sets.

you need to properly ground the underground cable and use primary and secondary lightning protection

lots of folks in this business skip the ground and primary protection and just slap some secondary protection in then wonder why the equipment was fried
