My client has a Partner + R3 with (3) 206E modules. Sometimes when they are on outside calls on Lines (1 & 4), they will start to hear static and the volume starts to drop, this continues to get worse until the call disconnects. This is an intermintent problem. Lines 1&4 are on seperate modules. ??? replace the 206 mods or is it the processor??
Thanks

Doubtful it's the processor. I've had this happen on 206 cards, it may be coincidental the problem exists on 2 cards at the same time.

My bet is a couple bad lines. I've seen CO card problems that did exactly as you say on 2500 sets. One wet cable (think it was an open splice case) would "charge up" with cross-talk/battery when it was wet, causing static and such, then when it "burned through" the resistance of the bad conductors (insulation), another nearby pair would ring, causing it to short and drop.

Have your dialtone provider do a quality test on the lines. And don't accept that "test" to be a tech making a call from a butt-set from the demarc! Make them pull the bridge clips and test from the CO properly.

LEC (verizon) did check ines and said co lines ok. Don't know how they tested lines though. Because problem is sporadic very hard to isolate. Will replace206 card and see what happens. Thanks...ldw

Might want to swap line 1&2, and 3&4, to see where the problem goes. If it stays on 1 and 4, that would point to hardware; if it moves to 2 and 3, that would point to the telco. Have the customer log which lines have the problem, incoming or outgoing, time of day, length of time before static occurs, etc.

Good thought touchtonetommy. I will do just that and see what happens. thanks..ldw
