I have a Partner ACS 308 Proc. 1.0 and a Partner Mail VS R4 and I want the Auto Attendant to answer all calls. Sometimes it will pick up after the 2nd ring, sometimes after the 4th and sometimes it just transfers it to a random extension. I have assigned the 2 VM ports to Hunt 7, I have assigned the appropriate lines in the Call Group Dist. menu (#206), set the VMS Hunt Delay(#506) to Immediate, set the VMS Hunt Schedule(#507) to Always, and assigned Auto. Ext. Privacy(#304) on all ext.'s but I am still getting the problem when I call in. What am I missing or not doing correctly? Thanks!

Double check that there are NO extensions in Hunt Group 7 other than the VM ports. Sounds like the calls get presented to a non-VM port, ring for a time, then advance to a real VM port. Next call hits the other VM port, next call hits the non-VM port extension (lather, rinse, repeat)

Hi GIRLYGIRL,
Yup, basically, if both vm ports are busy the call will ring until a port frees up. If your call volume is high enough you need a four port. You should be able to pick up a 2 port, 10 mailbox expansion card somewhere cheap.
For your application I normally recommend a 4 port minimum (full auto-attendant).

First I made sure that only the VM ports (ext 34 and 35) are in Hunt 7 and the ext's still rang. I took one extension out of Hunt 7 and left 1 in and they both still Ring when a call comes in. And now the ext I took out of Hunt 7 will not send calls to VM. I understand that if both ports on the VM are busy, the caller will hear ring until one becomes available but why is it ringing to another ext? I just need the AA to answer all calls, and not ring any ext's until the caller presses the appropriate ext. and I need VM on the ext's too. Thanks guys, I appreciate all your help!

Also in the programming menu what ext. should the "Auto Attend" be assigned to if any? Thanks!!

Hi GIRLYGIRL,
If you take an extension for the vm out of (#505,7) the hunt group you need to make sure the extension is set to no ring. Otherwise it'll answer but does not not what to do with the call (xfer to x10). The switch sends mode codes to extensions in the vm hunt group with a call.
You do not program AA attendant extensions. Deprogram those.
Remove ringing on all extensions. Assign the lines to hunt group 7 (#206,7,01 ..., 1-assigned). Extension coverage for vm is #310.
