I tried posting these 2 questions on the Merlin forum, but haven't gotten any responses, so I thought I would try posting here.

If a user upgrades from a Partner ACS to a Merlin Magix, can a Partner Doorphone be connected to a port on a 016 ETR card and still have it function as a basic intercom, or will the doorphone become a lost cause?

Second question: Is it good practice to remove backup batteries on Partner ACS or Merlin Magix processors if the boards are New In Box (spare stock) and are not expected to be used in the immediate future? [ponder]

The answer to the second question is no

I'm not sure aboout the first

I believe you can use the unit at the door but you need to get a door phone controller to connect to the Magic. It usually connects thru a trunk port and you assign the trunk to the phones you want to answer the door.

Thanks for the fast responses!

Does Avaya offer a doorphone controller? I've scoured Magix documentation, but see no mention of such a device, or adding a Partner doorphone to the Magix system for that matter.

I was also wondering, if the batteries should be left alone on the Magix processor, how long will they last before needing replacement.

try using your partner door phone, programmed as a hot line from the magix, you only need 1 analog pair from the etr module or 016. you cannot use a partner door phone with a at&t door phone controllor

I'll keep a copy of these posts on file with the Magix documents. The upgrade won't happen for a while, but when it does, it should be a smooth one. My only concern now is how long those batteries should last on the Magix processor. [ponder]

Yes you can buy a door phone controller. I think Avaya offers one and probably Bogen. I wouldn't remove the batteries. They probably will last just as long in as out.

If you are planning on leaving the ACS unit 'on the shelf' for an extended period of time, it is BEST to remove the two AAA batteries. There will be a drain on the batteries while the unit is unplugged. At the very least you will end up with two dead batteries. At the worst, the battery casings may 'leak' or explode, corroding the battery compartmen components, wiring, etc.

Thanks for the help everyone! [smile]

The leaking batteries is part of the reason I was contemplating removing the 2 button batteries from the spare Magix processor. I was afraid that doing so would present the risk corrupting default programing.
