I'm trying to set up remote programming to a an ACS R6
but can't get past retrieving translations. I have a US Robotics Sportster standard modem which works for Definity dialup. Is there a cheat sheet to explain the setup??
Thanks, Cwire
Thanks HyTech and Dexman! The external modem is something I attached to the laptop because the connection was unreliable/nonexistent with my laptop's internal Conexant modem. Conexant works fine for Legend/ Magix dialup. My R6 Processor does have the Backup/ Modem card installed. Sometimes I get "no answer" error messages, sometimes "connected at 14.4" but can't log in. Occasionally I can get in and see the menu, and even see the Remote Backup complete, but retrieving translations shows very slow progress and never completes. I wonder if the modem needs something changed in the AT command string. I've used this modem to log in to Definity switches.
The modem built into the Remote Access/Backup & Restore PCMCIA card isn't very reliable. Avaya gave up and put a jack for an external device on the front of the processor.
Thanks Dexman. My customer is interested in going to R7 for
Unified Messaging. He already uses Messaging Admin over his network. Does the remote access dialup work reliably on R7?
Also, can he do network-based remote admin on the R7 Partner, or dialup only?
The ability to establish a remote connection when using an external dialup modem should be easier than trying to use the internal modem.
I'm not sure if you can program the processor via a network based connection, but one of the more senior technicians can give the final answer. The 2 ways I know to accomplish the task are using dialup or locally using a 34D connected to extension 10 or 11.
The problem with remote programming is that the processor needs to be power-cycled in order for any changes to take effect.
