Customer's ACS is DOA. Can I use restore function from old to new processor. Not sure of version of old processor, but new one is R6.0. Thanks

Unfortunately, you must restore onto a system with the same version of ACS. You can try, but you might get the error:

[green]Incompat Version or Incompatible Versions [/green]

And that is the big issue we would like Avaya to solve. Release software to upgrate the translation as with the Magix.

Why don't we solve it ourselves? Has anyone looked at the format of the translation files?

A quick look suggest it isn't trivial. Even regular text is scrambled. For example, a phone labeled "John Office" shows up in the translation file as "OJNHO FFCI E"

I tried doing this the other day. When I tried to restore programming from an old acs to a R6 partner basic the screen said "Insert valid card"

Had to reprogram the whole phone system.

Hi Hondacrusher,
You are supposed to upgrade the old processor first (with the new upgrade card) and save the translation to that. Afterwards it will load on the R6 with no trouble. You do not need to upgrade the new processor as it is already at R6 level.

Sure that would work, but it doesn't work to well when the old processor took a lightning hit and was DOA. We are talking about DOA old release acs's, not ones that work.

Hi Hondacrusher,
I feel for you as I've been there many times myself. I keep a copy of customer's translations on my laptop so I can at least look at it as I punch the new program in to the new processor.

Blown processors are an issue and the inability to migrate to a new release is a sore spot (see my comment above). Sometimes we have a "pull" of the same release so we can load the program in there and do an upgrade. Mind you, your card may be fried too.
