I have a partner acs when I hit Function 59 it says "acs 3.03 c01, I can remotely connect to the system OK I have a rac card in the system but whenever I try to send or retrieve a translation it gets to 100% and says there is a error and discards it, Not sure where to start, other then to possibly upgrade the module to r7, short of that where should I look,

macphoneguy,

How are you connecting to the switch? Are you using an external modem to your computer? I have had several problems with connecting to Partner systems using an internal modem due to the handshake. If you are using an external modem to connect I would try swapping the rac for one that you know works. I use a cheap US Robotics modem with the dip switches set to 1,2,4,5 and 8 up. Let me know how you are trying to connect and all the program settings to the switch and I will see what I can do to help.

I've tried connecting two ways, one is a laptop(running xp) with a Internal Modem I can connect OK if I dial it remotely or locally dialing 76, if I do something like give a extension a name the save button does become enabled, the connect rate is usually 14400 Doing it from a desktop system when it calls I just get a message about it detecting that the line is "busy",(running win2000) the desktop is a external usr modem (56k) but I will have to check the dip switches from your note as see what they are,
programming, so far has been from set 10, basically exclusing line 4 from the other sets and making it appear on 76 the RAC card

Ok.
From what I am reading you have the password set, #730, #505 set hunt group 6 to 76. Now does this set up have a 5 slot carrier with any 206 cards or 206E? There was a line of cards and I don't remember what the serial numbers started with but it would not allow you into the system. TTT may know more about that. I would recommend starting with the rac. Swap it for a known working one. Take your laptop and disable your internal modem and add the external. While on site dial in. And see what happens. I know you don't want to go to the site that is why we install the rac and transfer in to make our changes. But sometimes we have to be there to see what it is doing. Like I said before I have never had any luck using an internal modem. I use and IBM with XP and have 157 remote sites with Partner ACS 3.0 or higher. Let me know what happens. One other thing I have run into. Watch what rac you get. I have had two releases one was a 3.0 and the other a 5.0. I could not use the newer rac with a date code of 2004 would not work. I had to get an older one. Explain that.

it is a 5 slot carrier, in slot 1 is a 400E module, (left most) slot 2 is a 206EC I believe followed by the 308 processor module in the middle slot 4 & 5 are empty, I'm thinking 1 of two things, 1 is something that the 308 Module doesn't like the something about the other two modules so I will try the 308 module by itself, the RAC card has a 2000 date on it but if the 308 module doesn't behave by itself, then my next thought is swapping the RAC out I have a 14,4 external usr that I will also try in with the laptop and the dip switch settings,

macphoneguy,
Sorry I have been out with the flu. It sounds like you are on the right track. I would pull the 206 card then try dialing in. If you can connect and make changes then you found the issue. If it doesn't then I would pull each card out one at a time. If you still can't then swap out the rac card. With you saying that the 308 doesn't like something about the 206 then I would lean that direction. Let me know your findings.

fondog2,
Well for me I've always been able to connect remotely once I setup the #730 and setup one line to the rac card, Locally when I'm next to station 10 or 11 if I punch in the function code it's shown me what I wanted, However when I am local (dialing 76) or remote using the laptop to program it when I hit retrieve system information and check system translation and system backup for instance, it will do the system backup but when it is doing system translations it starts but stops retrieving the info anywhere from 10% to 100% before erroring out, (it doesn't seem to matter if the 206 & 400 card is in the slots or not) using a USR modem vers the laptop's internal modem didn't seem to make any differance, In talking to some of the Avaya people about the Partner system they seem to have run into the same thing sometimes it works great others it doesn't work at all I would "think" that avaya would have some kind of Part compatability matrix based on part numbers but I haven't found it,

macphoneguy,

Start from scratch. When you try to connect using your laptop and the internal modem you select all options to retrieve all information but when you get between 10 and 20% it drops. I had the same problem using the INTERNAL MODEM. Now I am not yelling at you. I am showing you what the problem is. Disable the internal modem and load the US Robotics External. Set the dip switches to what I have said and then try again. I am telling you out of 155 remote sites I have now if I am really lucky and the stars and the blue moon is in the right position you will connect using an internal modem. Now could you ever connect to this site or or are you trying for the first time? You stated when you "Well for me I've always been able to connect remotely once I setup the #730 and setup one line to the rac card, Locally when I'm next to station 10 or 11 if I punch in the function code it's shown me what I wanted," this doesn't make much sense. It will work or it won't.

2 items, sorry if I'm being "Slow" I did the following 1. hooking up a a external 56K usr modem (5686-03) however using the dip switch setting you mentioned 1,2,4,5, & 8 turned up, and the modem hookedup to the serial port on the laptop, In control panel I wasn't able to successfully query the modem, however with 1,2,4 & 5 up XP is happy with the modem, so I fear I'm missing something there,
2. programming from station 10 or 11, I believe I would need to set #505 setting hunt group 6 with extension 76
setting #730 for the remote admin password, #403 for the local password, setting automatic line setection for the stations as they will be using 2500 sets,
the remote card in the system at the moment is 108319963 12G1 with a date of april 2000 & V64.G
I drain memory by removing the AAA batterys from the processor module with the power off, (waiting 30 seconds before putting back in and powering back on,
I'll connect the laptop to the external modem, and the line plug goes over to one of the stations 12 or 13 should be Ok right ?

macphoneguy,
Youa are correct on the dip switch settings. It is for XP. You did not tell me what you were using so I could only assume. Bad on my part. After you drain the programming you will need to go back in and program the settings to remote in. Then you can then use on of the extensions to dial from. When you dial and hear the phones ring, walk over to one of them press transfer 76 transfer hang up the phone. Walk back to your laptop. Once it connects you should see a box prompting you for a password. Enter the password and then try to down load the config.

Let me know what happens.

well fondog2,

I'm not sure why but it is working with the USR external as to retrieving translations and sending them, this is working locally, next I will plug it in to the 5 slot carrier with the 206 & 400 cards and try it remotely to be 100%. Before powering it down for the day, I setup line 3 for access on station 76, and made stations 10-17 no access on line 3, and saved the translation back to the pc card,

one other question related to the external modems, is there a Minimum speed usr ? i.e. if I have a 33.6 or 28.8/14.4 external usr will that work OK ? (I also have a 1200 external hayes oldie but goodie) thanks again

I think I will write myself a "cheat sheet" to remember the steps for updating the system speed calling,

Mine is set 115200. When I connect it shows 14400 everytime.
