I installed a Partner system in my wife's office in 2000, and it was already pretty old. In includes three R3.x 206Es, an R4.1 Processor, and a VM box. It has worked reliably over the years, but recently, calls on one CO line are intermittently half-duplex (The outside user can't hear anything, but the inside user can hear fine).

I assume the problem is with the 206E but someone with more knowledge of the interaction between modules might have a better idea. I can swap two 206Es since the 2nd and 3rd units have no incoming lines, which might fix it?

If it is isolated to one line swap that line into another used line port (an vice versa) and see if the problem follows the line or stays with the same port. If it follows the line to the new port it is a line provider issue. If it stays with the port on the system then swap the 206E's to fix.

Due to the age of the existing hardware, if the problem is isolated to a bad port or module, consider upgrading to a Partner ACS R8 rather than replacing very old hardware with more very old hardware. [smile]

I [love2] "FEATURE 00"

I don't think the R8 supports any of my existing hardware (from an earlier post).

Swapping 206Es did not fix the problem. I re-seated all the modules in the course of the swap, so it's probably not connector corrosion. Since the backplane is passive, I guess that leaves the processor? Are the Partner Plus and Partner II compatible?

DID you swap the suspect line with a known good line at the CO ports of the 206's, to confirm if the problem remains with the CO port or moves with the line? If it stays with the CO port, are you using all of the available CO ports? Partner II has a couple more features than the Partner Plus, especially Caller ID if you have 206EC's

I tried a POTS phone on the CO line, and it worked. The problem is intermittent, so that might not have been a conclusive test. I have three 206Es and three CO lines, so I swapped the primary 206E with the third one, which had no inbound lines attached, and the problem remained the same.

I did the system programming 17 years ago, so dealing with a moved CO line (or a new processor, for that matter) is something I dread. My brain worked better back then...

Very simple. Assume you have 3 lines, and the line having the issue is line 2.

At Ext. 10
Feature 00
Left Intercom Twice
#301-10-02-2 (removes Line 2 from Ext. 10)
#301-10-04-1 (puts Line 4 on Ext. 10, in the "first available button with lights", which happens to be where Line 2 used to be)
Right Intercom Once
10
**
Press Line 1, Line 2, Line 3 (Sets the auto line select to Line 1, 2, 3)
**
Right Intercom Once
Left Intercom Once
#399-10-11-12-13-14-15-16-17-etc (Copies the programming on Ext. 10 to 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and so on)

If perhaps you have some phones that ring, and others that don't ring, do the line programming and copy to a phone that rings, then copy to the other phones that also ring, and to ONE of the phones that doesn't ring.

Right Intercom button Once
Dial the extension number of that ONE phone that you just copied to
Press each line button twice to change from Immediate to No Ring
Right Intercom button Once
Left Intercom button Twice
#399-That extension number that you just programmed-dial the other extension numbers that need the line assigned but should not ring.
