I'm a fairly new to Informatica. Have a baisc question: Can partitioning be done only in PowerCenter and not in PowerMart? What's the difference between the two as far as partitioning is concerned?
Reason for this question are the following texts from the Workflow Administration Guide:
1. "A partition is a pipeline stage that executes in a single thread. If you use PowerCenter, you can set the number of partitions at any partition point. If you use PowerMart, the Informatica server defines one partition for the pipeline."
2. "If you use PowerCenter, you can specify partitioning information for each source pipeline in a mapping. If you use PowerMart, you must accept the default partitioning information

From the 'getting started' manual on Powermart:

includes all features except
distributed metadata
multiple registred servers
pipeline partitioning

This is a sales thing, if you want to play it big, they will want you to license the much more expensive PC ....
