partitions and gaming 2

Help
I have recently partitioned an 80gb hard drive using XP Pro. namely a small partition for windows(system)and rest for storage/data no OS. To enable me to play games on the larger of the partitions do I need to also have an OS on this partition and use the dual boot option? or do I have to re format the whole drive making the partition with the OS larger to accomodate the games and the other partition for storage? or can I still play games without an OS? Sorry its a number of questions but Im trying to cut down on my workload.

No need for more than one OS, doesn't matter how many partitions or which partition the game ends up being stored in, you only need the one to boot from.
Just remember everytime you load software or save a file, direct it to the larger storage partition, otherwise your small OS C partition will very quickly get full and slow down big time.
Did you format this second larger partition? if not this can actually be done in windows just by right clicking and formatting.
Hope you didn't make the OS partition too small? with a basic set of programs along side the OS it needs to be over 10gig, my opinion but others will comment.

Once you have installed XP it will have listed your larger partition as Drive D or E or whatever letter, depending on CD-ROM's, DVD's and any other partitions you may have. As far as XP is concerned they are all accessible to it from any program launched within XP.

Just think of your large partition as one giant folder with many sub-folders.

Thanx for the info guys, the larger partition has been formatted. I guess what Im trying to ask is will games run on their own merits if installed to the larger partition and not need the OS? I installed Hidden and Dangerous 2 onto it, it loaded but when it came to the user set up it gave the boxes but did not have any text to choose from. Do you think its a bad install or does the partition need something added.

All programs / games etc. can be installed on another drive.
If you just accept the default install(tey install at c:\Program Files\[something]
If you always use the custom install , replace
C:\Program Files\[something] with
desired drive eg. E: (just change the drive letter, let the setup program use the rest of it's selected path)
E:\Program Files\[something]
