I have a 40gb hard disk that had crashed and im not sure what other ppl have done to it allready, but simply if I look in disk managment the partition I want reports the right size (27.39GB) but if I look in windows explorer it only shows up as a 10.1 mb disk and has the system volume information folder and the recycled folder. Partition table doctor 3 found errors with ending sectors, chs values, boot sector which it repaired but still only can see a 10mb drive.

Any ideas????

You don't say what OS you are using, but have you tried chkdsk/scandisk?

Download diagnostics from manufacturer's web site and run tests on it, if tests ok then zero fill it.

jms9999,

The 10.1 is probably available free space. I would try scandisk as Micker377 suggested.

Do Not Zero Fill!!

Problem solved...something appeared to be wrong with the type of partition...changing this to fat32 with partition table doctor gave me back the correct drive size and ontrack easy recovery let me recover the data to another drive.
