this morning i started up my computer and it detected my hard drive with all these ascii codes and then it got to the point where it says 'verifying pool dmi data..' and it freezes
i resetted again until it detected the correct name but then it had an error screen while loading windows stop error: 0x000000ED something about unmountable storage device. i read around i found something about using windows xp recovery console it says that my hard disk is emtpy! 'C: Partition1 [unknown]' so i cant run chkdsk to reset the logfile for NTFS drives
im running a MSI K7T Turbo Motherboard
and IBM 40GB Hdd
help would be appreciated thanks =)

I heard that there is something that allows you to read an NTFS disk under DOS. If I find a link, I'll post it here.

What you're looking for is NTFSPRO. You'll need to create a bootdisk from WinXP or a WinME machine (it absolutely has to be the "Windows Millenium" version of DOS to run).

Or you can find and create a bootable CD using the Universal Bootdisk, which includes NTFSPRO. This was done by someone in Russia, so excuse the russian web pages:

For instructions on how to make a bootable CD...good luck. You won't be able to use Easy CD Creator--maybe Nero supports placing a boot image on a CD. You can download a demo and use the demo Nero to burn it.

you need to check to see if you have other issues with the computer.
change the battery and reset the CMOS with every component removed (including PCI cards) except video and keyboard.
reboot
add floppy
set HD as master on the first IDE cable
put the drive in different spots on both IDE cables to rule out cable and IDE BUS failure.

the HD could have failed
do you hear weird HD noises? repeated clicking?
IBM drives have issues on losing their boot sector or corrupting the MFT on NTFS partitions.
you will need a second HD with Windows XP/2k to be able to look at the other drive or use some drive data recovery programs.
"Winternals Disk Commander" is the best but is a bit expensive
this program is a little difficult to use but works. "PC Inspector File Recovery"
I don't have the current links to these programs.
here is a link on IBM drives and their failure rate.
