Hi everybody,
I have a 13.6 G Maxtor HD fdsked as C:. I plan to use PM5 to partition it. How would I proceed without having to wipe out everything now on C:. Thanks.
well if your informnation is already on C:, then just doing Partition Resize in PM5 will do just fine.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=

hello Karl,
since you are the only guy who ansewred to my last post, may I have another question for you.
after installing pm5, as soon as I clicked the icon to start, an error message appears: "drive letter cannot be identified" Error: 117. What does it all mean? Thanks
Hmm, just clicking start?, did you chose any procedures to be commited like "resize" or something, cuase you cant start something unless you have something to start(boy that sounded confusing)
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=

um no, you run PM5, it has a graphical interface, then you tell it everything you want to do, then press Apply, are you saying you cant even open the program?
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=

Do you have a driver overlay on that 13 gig Maxtor? I was using one on an 15 gig IBM and tried to use PM5 and it wouldn't work for me either. I contacted IBM and they said Disk Manager would not work with PM. Boy was I bummed.
Yes Karl, I cannot even open the program. I was moving around the program, trying to start it and I got three error codes: 113, 117, and 602. 113: pertition overlap- 117: Partition's drive letter cannot be identified- 602: batch file not found.

yes Im, i think i had MaxBlast installed sometime ago, and which is one of the drive overlay programs listed.

What dod I do?
I have a question for you guys

Whenever I intiate the process of resizing one of my partitions, it goes to msdos, does stuff for about 30 seconds, then asks me if i want to go back to windows. Clciking no just stays in MS-Dos, and the partition isn't resized, and clickin gYes produced the same reults, except I go back to windows. Any ideas?
Try running scandisk first before running PM5 . if the drive has errors on it PM5 can bomb out . Try defregging drive also before using PM5 . I have come across problems due to errors on the hard drive allocation table . But PM told me errors existed in the FAT before bombing .
sure, some fancy bios-level programs will help you see a 13 gig volume, but why tempt fate:

PC partition > 8GB = BAD

Format your drive into multiple partitions, each 8GB or less.

-- Aaron
-- bjgadmin
How do I partition my HD (5.59GB)??
I use PM5, and go through the wizard and nothing happens before and after reboot.
I want to split my HD into 2 equal parts, so I can run Windows 98 on one and Windows ME on the other, with a startup menu.
Thanks for your help in advanced
Hi...
I have just installed PartitionMagic 5.0 lately, and I was trying to partition my c6.14GB), but I accidentally press the wrong program. I think i pressed something call "boot drive" inside the PartitionMagic 5.0, and then my computer restart......and then i can't logged in!
the message show in my screen is:
"Type The name of the command Interperter (e.g, c:/windows/command.com) c> "
then i try Fdisk and format my harddrive, but after i did that too....still won't work ! and i can't install my window 98 ......and it hows that "not ready reading drive c"

, help me plz!
If you purchased the "Kit" version of ANY Maxtor HD, they include a setup utility to do this for you. It will even clone your existing hard drive and move it to the new drive. Its worth it to pay the little extra. I would imagine you can download it from Maxtor.com.

-Tex
Here is my question: If I have a single 12 GB partition right now (C, can I use PM 5 to just create a new partition out of the space that is not used within that partition, or do I first have to resize that partition to leave some unpartitioned space free?

Thanks.
yes you can use Partition magic 5 for all these purposes, some of the other folks probally have older harddrives or older BIOS, that doesnt allow them to work with it, I have used PQMagic 5 just fine, no problem at all.
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
