Hi all,

Running a Win98 machine at work and one of the users got the invalid boot disk message. So i ran fdisk and found out that no partitions were present. Created a new partition; set it to active etc; did a reboot to format the c drive and get the error: format not supported on drive c:. So i ran fdisk again and find out that the partition i created is not there- i have done this many times but the partition keeps deleting somehow.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advanced,

Sunil

You might try doing fdisk /mbr at a DOS prompt -- that resets the master boot record -- and then set the partitions.

Thanks for the reply...

I've fdisk /mbr still no joy.

You might try the drive manafacturer's tech support site to see if there is a low-level format utility to return the drive to factory specs.

Couldn't find the low level format utility for this hard drive- (Quantum) which has been taken over by Maxtor right?

Ive checked the cable as well- it was working perfectly the day before. The thing is different people use this PC therefore cannot ask what (if anything) happened before. More than likely not a user fault anyway.

Thanks for replies.
