I have been trying to partition a table on my local instance which is a SQL 2005 Developer edition SP2 and was able to create the partitions and work on them successfully. While I am trying to create the same on the instance of [database name]on [servername], I was not able to and it gives out an error message of
‘Partition function can only be created in Enterprise edition of SQL Server. Only Enterprise edition of SQL Server supports partitioning.’

the server is running SQL Server 9.00.1399.06 - RTM (Standard Edition)

I do not beleive we need the Enterprise version, but rather a service pack update.

Can anyone confirm or deny this? And what update is advised?

Tom

Table partitioning requires Enterprise Edition or higher. It isn't available on standard edition or lower.

MrDenny-
Will the partitioning be available in version SQL 2008 Standard?

Thanks in advance

Tom

No, it is still (and probably will be for several releases) an Enterprise Edition feature. If you have enough data that you need to partition the table, and the hardware to make table partitioning work well then you probably need Enterprise Edition for some of the other features, and you've probably got the budget for Enterprise Edition.
